Clinically
definite MS confirmed by a consultant neurologist
Relapsing
remitting disease
At
least 2 disabling attacks of neurological dysfunction in previous 2 years,
one of which within the last 12 months, followed by recovery which may or
may not be complete
In
spite of accumulating residual deficit, no progression between relapses
Ambulant
Aged
18-50 years
Not
pregnant or intending to become pregnant
No
history of significant current depressive illness or suicidal ideation -
past history subject to clinical judgement
No
uncontrolled epilepsy
Not
receiving immunosuppressive agents (other than corticosteroid
Disabling
attack = relapse severe enough to warrant high dose corticosteroid
Ambulant
= able to walk at least 100m without aid or rest
