Grampian Guidelines (1995)

• Clinically definite MS confirmed by a consultant neurologist

• Relapsing remitting disease

• At least 2 disabling attacks of neurological dysfunction in previous 2 years, one of which within the last 12 months, followed by recovery which may or may not be complete

• In spite of accumulating residual deficit, no progression between relapses

• Ambulant

• Aged 18-50 years

• Not pregnant or intending to become pregnant

• No history of significant current depressive illness or suicidal ideation - past history subject to clinical judgement

• No uncontrolled epilepsy

• Not receiving immunosuppressive agents (other than corticosteroid )

Disabling attack = relapse severe enough to warrant high dose corticosteroid

Ambulant = able to walk at least 100m without aid or rest
