Foreword
The Scottish Medical Journal will be expanding its coverage of historical topics, reflecting a steadily rising interest in our Scottish medical heritage. We are pleased to include accounts of a major Scottish innovation, namely the pioneering introduction in Glasgow of day surgery. The second contribution is from the late Watson Buchanan, who, though transplanted to Canada, wrote extensively over decades on Scottish medical history for the Glasgow College Bulletin. On this occasion, he reflects on another celebrated Canadian, William Osler.
